Paris, a city known for its rich cuisine and excellent wines, has long been reproached for its undrinkable coffee. Happily, in the last few years, the city has seen a coffee revolution. More and more local coffee brewers such as Coutume was come out, which today i am going to share this cafe with you, Coutume.

The way of Coutume’s interior design is my favorite, which is industrial style, the high walls and timeworn mouldings, lichen and aloe growing in the sink, white laboratory tiles and scientific machines. As you can see that is a big open space, packed with tables and a long coffee bar that has the feel of an American diner. However, you can choose to sit inside or outside to enjoy sunshine, which is very cozy and chill.

Coutume opened in 2011 in the heart of chic Left Bank Paris, just a few minutes walk from Le Bon Marché department store. Owned by two of the gurus of the Paris coffee revolution, Antoine Netien and his Australian partner Tom Clarke, Coutume is part café, part torrefaction, supplying roasted beans to over 60 bars, restaurants and hotels across the city.

Coutume serves breakfast and lunch, with the emphasis very much on healthy organic products and plenty of vegetarian options, including a ‘detox veggie brunch’.

The ambiance is casual, friendly, and multilingual. Busy behind a white tile bar, the team of artisan baristas produce perfectly-frothed cappuccinos and artisan brewed coffee. On mornings and afternoons, the space is filled with happy Parisians and expats.
